On September 28, 2025, the "Art in Green" 2025 Beijing Nanshan Art Festival, jointly organized by the Academy of Fine Arts at Tsinghua University, the Pinggu District Committee and Government of Beijing, and the Beijing Artists Association, officially opened in Nanshan Village, Nandulehe Town, Pinggu District. The "Art in Green" 2025 Beijing Nanshan Art Season is a project funded by the National Art Fund for the year 2025. It is guided by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, and undertaken by the Pinggu District Bureau of Culture and Tourism, the People's Government of Nandulehe Town in Pinggu District, and the Sculpture Department of Tsinghua University Academy of Fine Arts. It is also co organized by the Pinggu District Leisure Work Special Class, the Pinggu District Committee Organization Department, the Pinggu District Committee Propaganda Department, and the Pinggu District Landscape and Greening Bureau.
Song Cong, Director of the Policy Planning Department of the Industrial Development Department of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Liu Ying from the Beijing Municipal Development and Reform Commission, Tu Honghan, Chief Economist of the Agriculture and Rural Bureau, Li Xiaojun, Second level Inspector of the Culture and Tourism Bureau, Tang Hailong, Secretary of the Pinggu District Committee of Beijing, Di Tao, District Chief, Liu Zhen, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, Zhang Xiaofeng, Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and all members of the four teams of Pinggu District, as well as the main leaders of various committees, offices, townships, and streets, Qin Chuan, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Academy of Fine Arts at Tsinghua University, Dong Shubing, Vice Dean, Li Xiangqun, Senior Professor of Humanities at Tsinghua University. The opening ceremony was presided over by Chen Hui, the head of the Sculpture Department at the Academy of Fine Arts, Tsinghua University.
Nanshan Village is the first new type of rural community in China that can be used for both flat and urgent purposes. It is also a demonstration village in Pinggu District, one of the first pilot villages for cultural industry empowerment in rural revitalization by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. It is also one of the first key construction villages in Beijing's "Hundred Thousand Project". Since 2024, the Academy of Fine Arts at Tsinghua University and the Pinggu District People's Government have adopted the theme of "School Land Cooperation Empowering Art Township Construction and Cultural Industry Empowering Rural Revitalization". Through the appointment of village first secretaries, the establishment of "Art Wanderers" bases, the establishment of "China Rural Aesthetics Museum", the establishment of rural art seasons, and the creation of rural art markets, more high-quality cultural resources have been promoted directly to the grassroots level, promoting the prosperity and development of local agricultural, cultural, and tourism industries.
At the opening ceremony, Ma Dongmei, Deputy District Mayor of Pinggu District, Beijing, pointed out that in recent years, the continuous empowerment of the art and design creative team of Tsinghua Academy of Fine Arts has given Nanshan Village new vitality. In the future, Pinggu will take the construction of the "World Leisure Valley" as the starting point, actively attract young artists to settle in Pinggu, and strive to create a benchmark for the development of leisure culture and tourism in the capital.
Qin Chuan stated that the theme of this art season actively responds to General Secretary Xi Jinping's development philosophy of "green mountains and clear waters are as valuable as mountains of gold and silver". Since 2024, Tsinghua Academy of Fine Arts and Pinggu District Government have continuously promoted the depth, breadth, and height of school local cooperation, achieving significant results. In the future, Tsinghua Academy of Fine Arts will continue to promote the "Art Empowers Beautiful Villages" initiative, encouraging and attracting more young artists, designers, cultural workers and other creative groups to root in the local land and tell the story of China well.
Li Xiaojun fully affirmed the; Art+; Innovative development models, especially those derived from the Nanshan Art Festival; Art Traveler Program; The implementation of the project provides a new platform for the gathering of young creative talents, which has important reference value for promoting the comprehensive revitalization of rural areas.
Meng Chao, a postdoctoral fellow at the School of Fine Arts, Tsinghua University and the first secretary of Nanshan Village in Pinggu District, introduced the preparations for the 2025 Nanshan Art Festival and released more than 30 new art works. These works are inspired by the natural scenery, historical memory, and characteristic agriculture of Nanshan Village, transforming Pinggu peaches and mountain pets into tangible cultural symbols.
Liu Zhen, Zhang Xiaofeng, Li Xiangqun, and Qin Chuan jointly unveiled the landmark sculpture "Peach Blossom Spring" for this art season. This work was created by Li Xiangqun, a senior professor of humanities at Tsinghua University. Based on the continuation of the appearance of Peking Opera martial arts students and their backhand holding posture in "The Great Sage 2024", it highlights the characteristics of Pinggu Da Tao.
The leaders of Pinggu District Government jointly held the unveiling ceremony for the establishment of the China Rural Aesthetics Museum, Beijing Small and Micro Design Workstation, and the "Copper Nanshan" Glorious Years Exhibition Room. They also awarded certificates to the first batch of member units of the Beijing Art Enriched Countryside Alliance and Pinggu District Village Coffee Alliance, and held an award ceremony for the excellent project of "One Town, One Garden, Aesthetic Pinggu".
Green mountains never age, art is always new. General Secretary Xi Jinping emphasized that "rural revitalization requires both shaping and soul building." Art is the way and tool for soul building. We will take this art season as a new starting point, apply more artistic elements to rural planning and construction, write the greenery of Nanshan on the picture of China's land, and tell the story of China to the world!
