The First Yan'an Woodcut Print Biennial Exhibition was recently held at the Yan'an Literature and Art Memorial Hall in Shaanxi Province. The exhibition is hosted by the China Artists Association, Shaanxi Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and the Propaganda Department of the Yan'an Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China. More than 200 original woodcut prints are exhibited, covering various forms such as black and white woodcut, color woodcut, watermark woodcut, etc. These works are based on contemporary life, while reflecting on the Yan'an spirit and carrying forward the tradition of realistic creation, and are the creative achievements of promoting the aesthetic trend of the new era.
Yan'an woodcut art is a brilliant chapter in the history of modern Chinese art. On that day, the Yan'an Printmaking Art Center was officially put into use. The "Deepening Life and Rooting in the People" cultural and artistic volunteer service practice point of the China Artists Association has also settled in Xiangbi Bay Village, Yan'an.
The Yan'an Printmaking Art Center is based on the original Lu Yi Woodcut Workshop, and has built and renovated cave dwellings and tile houses. It has also established printmaking workshops, artist studios, exhibition rooms, study and experience areas, as well as supporting functional areas such as accommodation and logistics. The center aims to leverage the educational function of Yan'an as the birthplace of literary and artistic spirit, deeply explore and organize the inheritance of Yan'an revolutionary literature and woodcut printmaking art traditions, and explore the establishment of a normalized "deep digging" mechanism for literary and artistic workers to promote contemporary printmaking art creation.
